Kitchen Design Ideas

Kitchen Ideas Designs: from small to large kitchens

Whether your remodeling or choosing a new kitchen, kitchen designs come in many flavors, shapes and sizes.  New and innovative ideas take root when your kitchen design considers it all, from kitchen colors, layouts, plans, budgets, styles and trends.

x

Soffit

A kitchen soffit adds more dimension to a ceiling. Soffits can also be a great way to close the gap between the tops of cabinets and the ceiling. This is an area that is not often used and is a dust collecting area. Adding a soffit can eliminate both of these problems.

x

Soffits are a great place to put recessed lights, which adds another way to highlight the cabinets. Having the recessed lights shine down on the cabinets will showcase the cabinet construction and the details of the cabinet faces. What a way to exhibit an excellent kitchen cabinet.

x

Colors

Colors make a big difference not only design styles and themes, but for filling space. Through color you can arrive at the desired mood and character for your Kitchen.  Also, if you want your kitchen to look cheerier, bigger, or smaller the right texture is key.  Filling in the right hues and developing the right color schemes are essential for the overall kitchen design.  Color can help you achieve your design goals, layout and space needs.   The darker colors can be used to bring the ceiling down and make the space smaller.  On the other hand lighter colors can make the small kitchen look bigger and warmer.

x

Layout Styles

We would be remiss if we did not address Kitchen Layout style. The layout is very dependent on the architecture of your home, but the “Kitchen Triangle” grouping the stove, refrigerator and sink elements close together remains the ideal for optimal functionality.

x

Basksplashes

Backsplashes can add a lot of extra style.  A backsplash can tie all the elements of your kitchen together.

When it comes to the backsplash serving as a decor and design element, the kitchen backsplash helps to bring together the color palette of the various rooms in your home that make up your home décor scheme.

Kitchen backsplashes give you functional beauty because they will protect your kitchen, and also help to improve your kitchen’s appearance. One of the great draws of kitchen backsplashes is their varying texture. Regardless of what color palette or theme you choose from your kitchen, backsplashes allow you to transform and enhance the dimension of your kitchen.

Green Kitchen

The kitchen is critical and the hub of the home and it tends to use most of the energy because of lighting, refrigeration and cooking. A green designed kitchen can give you functionality and style while saving energy.

Whether you’re remodeling, updating or creating a whole new kitchen you can take that time to look for ways to be more environmentally conscience.  Below are some high-impact ideas to realize the green kitchen:

Eco-Friendly Flooring
Stained Concrete or Indigenous
Stone Countertops
Air Admittance Valves
Wall Insulation
Energy-Efficient Windows, Doors and Skylights
Energy-Efficient Task Lighting and Lighting Controls
Energy-Efficient Appliances
Low-VOC Kitchen Cabinets
Low-VOC Paints and Finishes
Mold-Resistant Gypsum or Cement Board
Induction Cooktop

x

Organization

Keeping clutter to a minimum and countertops free from clutter with good kitchen organization and storage solutions is a top priority. Too much clutter makes cooking difficult and bare countertops aren’t very functional.  Organizing kitchen cabinets, closets, and countertop areas doesn’t have to be a full time job when the kitchen design bring with it Kitchen Storage Solutions.

Just as with cabinets, the important rule to remember is that the rules are bendable. By extending the depth of your countertops from 24” to 30”, you’ll find yourself with plenty of room for both appliances and food prep. If 30” base cabinets are too deep for you, bump the cabinets out 6” from the wall—your designer will be able to mask the dead space.  Prestige has experience designing storage solutions.

x

Kitchen Islands

Kitchen Islands have become popular for good reason.  They are great storage solutions for accessories like pots, pans, and appliances. A kitchen island can be put in a single row kitchen cabinets lineup or as part of an a L-shape kitchen, the island serves as the center of the entire kitchen.  The kitchen island as a stand-alone platform in the middle of the kitchen provides convenience and efficiency by creating more workspace.  It works best with open floor plans that bring the guest and cook or kitchen and living room into a conversation

Hello Helen, Here is a program that you can use to 'visualize' your interior design scheme. It's free to try for 15 days, I have this myself, it's very user friendly. I'm not sure about 'cut out' templates though, I think this might be helpful to you. If the link doesn't work down there, the program is called Punch Professional Home Design Suite. Good luck. Read more

arch 101 An efficient work triangle in the kitchen doesn't have to be equilateral but it does help to keep it reasonably close. Measure the distance between the 3 major work areas, sink, cook top, and refrigerator. Total the distance between the three. The optimum distance should be between 12-21 feet. In an equilateral triangle that's 4 to 7 feet per side. There are other things to consider such as how many people will be cooking at the same time and is there enough space to accommodate all persons comfortably. Read more

'Kitchen backsplash ideas' Designing a kitchen is as much a science as it is an art. Knowing the recommended measurements to use when planning the project can make all the difference in the final outcome. Here are important guidelines for your kitchen design project. 1. For efficiency, the work triangle (the space between the sink, refrigerator, and stove) should measure 26' or less with no single side longer than 9', or less than 4'. 2. In kitchens smaller than 150 sq. ft., opt for at least 13' of base cabinets, 12' of wall cabinets, and 11' of countertop. In kitchens which are larger, go with at least 16' of base cabinets, 15 1/2' of wall cabinets, and 16 1/2' of countertop. i also found the great link about the kitchen especialy kitchen backsplash ideas for u..
